Project Overview

The Village of Arlington Heights partnered with Verde Solutions to advance its long-term sustainability initiatives by installing a rooftop solar energy system at the Public Works Facility. Designed to reduce operational energy costs while supporting the Village’s environmental goals, the system features 861 solar panels and 4 inverters with a total system size of 503.69 kW-DC / 380 kW-AC. Over its 30-year lifespan, the installation is projected to generate more than 17 million kWh of clean energy while offsetting approximately 11,783 metric tons of CO2 emissions. The project reflects the Village’s commitment to investing in resilient infrastructure and leading by example in sustainable municipal operations.

Solutions Provided

Verde Solutions delivered a customized rooftop solar system that supports the City’s operational and sustainability goals. The project required close coordination around roof upgrades, utility integration, and system design to connect with the adjacent utility station and maximize energy savings. Verde also helped the City navigate federal funding opportunities and utility energy credit programs that strengthened the project’s financial viability. The result is a high-performing system that reduces reliance on traditional energy sources while generating predictable long-term savings. Designed for durability and efficiency, the installation demonstrates how municipalities can leverage incentives and thoughtful planning to implement impactful renewable energy solutions. Arlington Heights now benefits from cleaner energy, lower operating costs, and measurable progress toward its sustainability objectives.

Environmental Impact

Equivalent to

27,401

barrels of oil consumed

2,752

Removing 2,752 passenger vehicles driven for one year

206,649

Tree Seedlings grown for 10 years

2,456

homes electricity use for one year

It has been a long-standing goal of this department, which aligns with Village Board strategic planning, to incorporate sustainability and energy technologies to enhance the Village operations.
